Protect Your Family From Scorpions
Because elderly adults and children under the age of six are more likely to develop severe symptoms from a sting from a scorpion, special care should be given to protect them if your home has a scorpion problem. Precautionary measures your family can take include:
- Place the legs of the crib or bed in glass jars to prevent scorpions from climbing up. Scorpions need a rough surface to climb, making smooth glass impossible for them to get a grip on.
- Keep blankets and sheets off the ground and move the bed from against the wall.
- Hang a smooth surface above your bed, such as glass, that is several inches longer and wider than your bed, to keep scorpions from dropping directly on you. You may also place double-sided sticky tape around the edges to catch the scorpions for added protection.
- Check all blankets and pillows thoroughly before climbing into bed. Shake out pajamas and other clothing before putting it on.
- Wear shoes both indoors and outdoors.
